I am still in Peru. I’ve been sick this week, for the third time in two months. This week I had a fever for three days and my tonsils looked like cherry tomatoes. I’m done. I’m going home. I have a lot of projects in the works for 2024. More progress will be made when I’m back in America on February 1, god willing. I’ve been posting weekly on Substack for 6 months. Last week I rushed out a post before I finished cutting the not-great stuff out of it. I will post bi-weekly for a few weeks to ensure the content is of the highest quality.
What would you like to see me write about in 2024? GPTs? The scam of psychiatry? Living with a cult? Homeless people? Should I go live with Native Americans? I reply to all comments.
I’m probably the last person to write an annual review.
Here’s my 2023 recap with highlights and top essays.
I started off 2023 in a precarious financial situation. I wrote about it here.
I started to learn and practice Kundalini yoga exercises. I worked with a coach, Luke McKim. We became friends and recorded a dozen podcasts together.
I worked a job at Home Depot. I read Mike Ma books. I started writing regularly. I wrote about Home Depot. The post is called Depot Pop 645 am Fat Person Murdered. It’s stream-of-consciousness jibberish.
I joined the Pathless Path online community.
I got a desk job. I didn’t like it. I left.
I participated in the Indie Thinkers writing course. I started posting online every week.
I went to Kripalu in Massachusetts for a Wim Hof breathwork and cold plunge weekend.
I coached mountain biking lessons and guided electric-assist mountain biking experiences.
I went rafting and mountain biking in North Carolina. I went to Oregon for my cousin's beautiful forest wedding. I traveled to Montana and participated in a Jordan Jonas wilderness survival course.
Shortly after the Montana trip I experienced a potent depression. I wrote about depressions. It was one of my most popular posts.
I got really into hiking. I hiked a bunch of 4,000-foot mountains in New Hampshire. I slept at AMC mountain huts, including Green Leaf, Carter, Mizpah, and Zealand.
I made good friends with Manuel from Peru, and Rafael from Brazil. We went canoeing together. Manuel and I played indoor soccer together. We also went to the beach and got swept out to sea by a riptide.
I traveled to Pennsylvania and lived with an Amish family on their farm.
I worked on a local farm in New Hampshire picking strawberries, beans, and weeding. Lots of weeding.
I wrote about Schizophrenia and psychiatric labeling.
I crashed my mountain bike off a big jump. I hobbled away and mostly healed up.
I got on a plane to Peru to meet new people. I met new people. I went on a bunch of dates.
I hiked in and out of the third deepest canyon on Earth, before my hip injury was ready for it. Bigger mistakes have been made.
I traveled to Cusco and ate some of the best food I’ve ever had, made new friends, and played music with friends from Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Argentina.
I realized that all I really need to do is take care of my health, relationships, do some work, relax, and enjoy the ride.
I posted 55+ times on substack, essays short and long. It was a memorable year. I wrote more than 65,000 words. Some of which will eventually be printed in a book, this year, called All Outcomes Are Acceptable.
In 2023, I developed my ecology of practices, relationships, and my writing. I am creating more content in 2024. I’m also looking forward to hunting and fishing, traveling in America, hiking in New Hampshire, and spending a lot of time near the ocean. I’ll be recording more podcasts and posting them on YouTube, self-publishing my first book, and writing an almanac of Elon Musk quotes. I will finish developing and organizing a free writing workshop. If that goes well, I might organize a cohort writing course that focuses on professional editing and collaborating with GPTs. I also want to lead a live discussion on health, particularly mental health. I’m always down to connect on Zoom and talk about these topics.
