I was impressed by the truck towing a Porsche 911 and beating a Porsche 911 in a drag race. I assume that was the Cyberbeast variation, available for $100k. I will buy the less expensive, $79,900 dual-motor version. It has a 4.1 second 0-60 and 340 mile range. In cold weather with load and driving 75mph it will be more like 250 miles of range. That’s sufficient to get me around the mountains of New Hampshire. There is an optional battery pack that can be added to the bed of the truck to extend the range even further.
“Once every 5-10 years, something very special, a very unusual product comes along. It’s very rare to see a seemingly impossible. This is one of those times. We have a car here that experts said would be impossible. Experts said it would never be made. I think it’s our best product and the most unique thing on the road. Finally, the future will look like the future,” said Elon to start the event.
“Trucks are tough. How tough is this truck? It’s uses an ultra strong Tesla-designed steel alloy. This metal did not exist before. It has an angular shape because you cannot stamp these body panels. The body panels would break the stamping machines.”
“You may remember an incident four years ago. It didn’t quite go as planned.”
They throw the ball at the windows again.
“The glass is tough,” says Elon. “It also makes the drive quiet. It’s smooth as silk and silent when you drive it,” he adds.
“Because the center of gravity is low, it doesn’t roll over. If you’re in an argument with another car, you will win.”
They show a video of shooting machine guns at the truck.
“People ask why I made it bullet-proof. I say, why not? How tough is your truck? Sometimes you get these late civilization vibes — the apocalypse could come at any moment. Here at Tesla, we have the finest in apocalypse technology.”
“You have a car here that can out-pull an F-350 diesel. It’s an incredibly useful truck.”
The bed is 6’ long and 4’ wide. The truck has a 17” ground clearance. It has something called “rear torque vectoring,” as well as “Steer-by-Wire” which dynamically adjusts how much the wheels turn based on what your speed is. That sounds cool.
“Ethernet comms and distributed controllers,” reduces internal wiring by 70%. “The internals are as advanced as the externals,” says Elon, “Let’s look at performance.”
Cybertruck vs Porsche 911
Tesla bought two new Porsche 911’s and raced one against the Cybertruck — the Cybertruck pulling the other 911. The Cybertruck won. That was a baller move. I believe the kids call it “big dick energy.”
“Faster than a 911, while pulling a 911,” says Elon. “Deliveries begin now.”
A line of Cybertrucks drives through a tunnel and people start getting in the passenger seats.
“These are the actual owners,” Elon says. “Thank you for buying Cybertruck.”
There are no door handles. The door opens via a hard-to-see button. Classic Tesla.
“I haven’t slept for three days,” a customer says to Elon.
“Haha, oh wow. I hope you enjoy your car.”
“Thank you, I appreciate you,” another customer says to Elon.
Elon starts to wrap it up, “Thank you everyone for coming out… what? Oh, one more.”
“Thank everyone for coming out and thanks for your support. This will change the look of the roads. Finally the future will look like the future!”
Overall it was an impressive 30-minute event, mainly because of the machine guns shooting the truck and the race against the 911. The product is remarkable. It seems like Elon enjoyed it — and I’m glad, he worked hard for this. However, there is a lot more work to be done to get hundreds of thousands onto the roads. I’ll keep waiting patiently and selling off Tesla shares so I can afford to buy this $80,0000 truck.
With that guys, have a great rest of your day.
